Kitchen Cabinet Refacing - What Steps Are Involved?

A good refacing company should follow most of these steps:

  • Initial meeting with a designer

  • Measurements are taken of your kitchen

  • Detailed design plan prepared

  • Once approved, doors, drawer fronts and matching hardwood or laminate panels are manufactured in the company factory

  • On the day of installation, floors and entryways to the kitchen are protected

  • Old doors, drawer fronts, hardware and gliders are removed

  • All moldings, valance, trim pieces are also removed

  • If you are having your countertops replaced, then the sink will be disconnected and the counters removed (ask what happens to the debris, as this can be recycled)

  • The cleared kitchen is inspected and any defects repaired

  • Veneer is applied to the exterior surfaces of the cabinets, underside of wall cabinets, stiles, rails and returns

  • New cabinet doors, drawer fronts, boxes, pullouts, moldings and valances are installed

  • New sliders, hardware, concealed hinges and accessories are installed

  • If countertops are being replaced, new countertops, sink and faucet installed
