Electrolux Kitchen Appliances – Design Competition

I had the privilege of being among an impressive group of design professionals serving as one of the judges for the Electrolux kitchen design competition, “The Kitchen Reimagined.” We met in New York City in November at the offices of Interior Design magazine.

Coming from different design disciplines, with me being the only kitchen design specialist, we dissected each submission from the global group of competition finalists.

Passionate dialogue, active listening in appreciation of all views of the design professionals in attendance and some open second guessing in search of verifying our instincts brought us closer to a smaller group of finalists. And, I always regret that, while at the same time I am planning post after post as events transpire, only to get involved with something else before I put fingers to the keyboard. Thus, the regret!

Right now, and for some time, I have been juggling some very exciting balls, all in the air (ok, the blog ball dropped!) I am currently working on:

designing kitchens for clients running the business and all that entails participating in short design consultations for clients keeping my hand in Twitter, my personal facebook profile and my professional Facebook page (“like” me!)  working closely with Angela Min, who has been part of my business since the spring (she’s awesome, classically trained in Interior Design with a masters degree in ID, and you will be hearing from Angela on this blog and elsewhere!) working on my new product line, Bornholm, to be launched this summer and all THAT entails (a lot!) attending industry events blogging for [...]

Kitchen Design – Advice From Allied Professionals

Someone sent me an email and asked if I thought there was a design flaw in a section of her cabinet design. I had to write back that, yes, I agreed with her that part of the design was flawed. Unfortunately, it was a finished picture of the kitchen that they had sent me, which made it even more uncomfortable for me to give my opinion.
